Meeting Myself at Raven Street is the debut album and coming-of-age story of Indigenous singer-songwriter Kevin Schofield, also known as The Tennessee Cree. Kevin weaves a guitar performance with pow-wow chanting with truth telling lyrics to tell the tale of major cultural and lifestyle shifts in Indigenous way of life over the course of his life.
“I would like people to know there’s many different shades of Indigenous identity, there’s not one story of Indigenous identity, there’s many varieties of what makes up the identity of an Indigenous person. So, I want people to know that it’s not what you see in an Indigenous study 101. A lot of that is what you call Pan-American or Pan-Indigenous culture, what I try to do is go right to the communities and community stories and peoples stories, right to the heart of the song carriers and the people themselves.” - Kevin
"I learned Johnny Cash when I was 9 years old, I never did walk that line, I never did what I was told…”
"Don’t you someone who will cry for you
Stay awake nights die for you
I bet you never even knew..."
"We got administrators hiding behind a cushy desk
Their daddy went and told them that they were better than the rest…"
